About Transforming Schools…

First do no harm

That is the minimum standard by which we should judge schools and teachers, and sadly, due to outdated conceptions of schooling, political pressures, low teacher status, and other societal factors, schools are often places where kids’ development is thwarted, their natural curiosity is blunted, and their behavior is controlled, so that they lose touch with who they are. Are we then surprised that by college and after, young adults seem so lost?

The way many schools treat students is often inequitable and unjust. It’s way past time for change in how we conceive of schooling in the U.S.
